Software > Technical FAQ
Here is a categorized FAQ for all of our software products. If you still have an unanswered question or want a more detailed answer, do not hesitate to contact us directly at support@drillscan.com or by calling +33 4 72 13 01 45.Software requirements and deployment
- What are the minimum hardware requirements?
Basic operation only requires low end (by today's standards) computers: Pentium III class processor, 400Mhz, 128MB RAM, 50MB of hard drive free space. Heavy post-analysis, T&D&B or sag computations might require a significantly more powerful processor (Pentium IV, Core2 class, 2-2.8Ghz), or more patience. 3D visualization requires a compatible OpenGL video card.
- Which operating systems are supported?
All of our software runs on Windows 2000, XP, Vista, server 2003, server 2008 and 7. Additionally, although we do not currently have a native build for Linux, we ensure they run on x86 and x86_64 distributions under wine (using a license server; no support for hardware LPT or USB dongles)
- What do I need to know about the protection system?
All of our software uses a hardware dongle to run. This dongle can be plugged in locally or through our License Manager over IP addressed networks. This dongle is available in LPT (stackable) and USB format. USB dongles do NOT require any device driver (they work using the HID subsystem on newer versions of Windows). These dongles are extremely sturdy (1 million read/write cycles, survive dropping, kicking and washing machines). We will replace them free of charge in case of a failure.
- I need to reinstall my computer. How do I keep my settings and databases?
All settings (registered databases, options, licence information, etc) are stored in a single directory:
- C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\DrillScan on Vista, 2008 and 7
- C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\DrillScan on Windows 2000, 2003 and XP
