Steerable Motor

Problem
The drillstring and the steerable motor BHA presented a lock-up behaviour while sliding. No commercial software was able to predict such a response:
  • Lock-up in sliding mode – unknown cause
  • Commercial software inability to predict lock-up
Analysis
The analysis conducted with the Torque & Drag & Buckling software has shown that the drillstring could only get deeper in the hole in the rotary mode and with some friction reduction tools (FRT) along the drillstring.
Solution
A complete sensitivity analysis was conducted to optimize the FRT's position. Moreover, the software was able to predict the lock-up behaviour as it had been observed in the field.
